March 2025 Monthly Report
In March, we at Wave served 1,670 hot meals, welcomed 5 new arrivals, distributed 111 clothing items, 160 hygiene items, ran 51 showers, charged 92 phones and power banks, and washed 29 loads of laundry. Over the past month, we supported 65 people detained in Pre-Removal Detention Centres with clothing, hygiene items, and coffee. The total population we supported in March was 1,113.
March was another dynamic and demanding month for us at Wave. We continued to support a relatively stable number of people, although some days were quieter than usual due to Ramadan. Notably, a mosque in Thessaloniki offered hot meals every day during Ramadan, so some community members chose to go there rather than coming to Wave.
We also welcomed more families this month, including several young children. Creating a safe and supportive space for everyone remains one of our key priorities.
Ramadan at Wave
This Ramadan, we were committed to ensuring that everyone in our community had access to warm and nourishing meals to break their fast. Throughout the month, we provided daily hot meals, incorporating a variety of traditional recipes and desserts to bring comfort and familiarity to those observing.
In addition to our regular meal service, we organised extra food distributions—one for iftar and another for takeaway—allowing individuals to have a warm meal to carry with them for suhoor. This effort was particularly important for those experiencing unstable living conditions, ensuring they had access to food throughout the night.
We are grateful to our dedicated team and supporters who made this possible. The month served as a reminder of the power of community, solidarity, and the importance of sharing meals together during times of hardship.
Thank you for standing with us and for being part of this journey to support our community.
Eid al-Fitr Celebrations
To mark the end of Ramadan, we celebrated Eid al-Fitr by preparing and serving a variety of special dishes and cakes, creating a warm and festive atmosphere that brought a sense of home to our community. The abundance of food and shared meals helped bring joy and connection to those far from their families.
A huge thank you to our entire team for making these celebrations possible. Your dedication and hard work ensured that everyone had a memorable and nourishing experience during this special time.
It is especially important that, during holidays, community members can feel connected to their homes, families, and cultures. Providing special meals, adapting distribution times, and giving extra care to the Wave space to respect Ramadan and celebrate Eid al-Fitr helps foster a sense of belonging and community.
Security Improvements
This month, we implemented several security upgrades to enhance the safety of our space. These included:
- Installing new rings on all doors to allow for additional locks
- Adding new locks to the trailer windows
- Placing metal plaques on container windows to reinforce protection
Additionally, we updated the lighting system in the community space, deep-cleaned the windows, and replaced the wooden surfaces of the tables.
These measures aim to ensure a safer environment for both our team and the community members we serve. We will continue to assess and strengthen our security as needed.
