April 2025 Monthly Report

In April 2025 at Wave, we served 1,532 hot meals, distributed 91 items of clothing and 338 hygiene packs. We ran 72 showers, charged 104 phones and power banks, and washed 53 loads of laundry. Additionally, we sent packages to 56 people detained in immigration detention.

Over the course of the month, we supported 1,295 individuals, including 16 new arrivals.

April was a lively and full month at Wave. From the middle of the month, we noticed a steady increase in the number of visitors to our community center—including several families and children. Creating a safe, welcoming, and family-friendly space continues to be one of our top priorities.

Five Years of Solidarity and Community 🎉

In April, Wave celebrated five years of working alongside people on the move. What started in April 2020 as a response to the COVID-19 pandemic has grown into a trusted support centre in Thessaloniki for people on the move and local residents with unmet needs.

At the start, Wave focused on sharing meals. Now, Wave offers many additional important services: hot meals, clean clothes and hygiene items, showers, laundry, sleeping bags, phone charging, internet access, and even haircuts.

Central to our work is ensuring that we always create a safe and welcoming space where everyone feels they belong as part of our community.

Over these five years, we’ve kept changing and growing to meet the real needs of people who are often left without support. Everything we do is based on care, dignity, and standing together.

Eid al-Fitr Celebration

April also brought the joy of Eid al-Fitr, marking the end of Ramadan. To celebrate, we shared a festive meal with flavours from different countries, including traditional Ramadan dishes and a selection of sweets.

It was a beautiful day of connection, warmth, and community. We’re thankful to everyone who helped create such a special atmosphere, and we’re already looking forward to coming together again for Eid al-Adha in July.

Easter Celebration

April was also an important month for our community members who observe Lent and celebrate Easter. We engaged in egg painting activities and served a traditional Easter meal.

All community members, regardless of what faith they follow, are equally welcome in enjoying the dishes, activities and celebrations of whatever holiday is being marked.
