MAY 2025 MONTHLY REPORT

In May 2025, we at Wave served 1,909 hot meals to 1,255 individuals, distributed 365 clothing items and 458 hygiene items, supported 20 new arrivals, ran 82 showers, charged 122 phones and power banks, and washed 50 loads of laundry.

Throughout the month, Wave continued to stand beside people in need—supporting displaced individuals, families, and vulnerable community members in Thessaloniki. We observed a clear increase in the number of people seeking support, including children, families, individuals recently evicted from detention centres, and people deported from EU countries. Our team responded with compassion, adaptability, and a strong sense of responsibility.

This month, we were proud to present Wave’s mission and daily work at the City College of Thessaloniki. Sharing our efforts with a wider audience helps raise awareness and strengthen community connections.

We also hosted two valuable training sessions at our centre:

  • De-escalation Training for coordinators, volunteers and MIT case workers, focussed on responding calmly and safely to distressed or agitated individuals in tense situations.
  • Asylum Process Training, led by our partners from MIT, offering our team and volunteers a deeper understanding of the asylum system and how to better support those navigating it. We’re grateful for this collaboration and the shared commitment to meaningful work.

One of the most impactful moments this month was a large-scale distribution at our center, made possible by the generous support of Firefly Hope Project. Thanks to their partnership, we reached many individuals with essential items—offering relief, dignity, and a sense of care. We are deeply thankful for their continued support.

Volunteer Update:
Looking ahead to summer, we’re excited to have welcomed a group of new, passionate volunteers. Their energy and commitment are already making a real difference, and we’re thrilled to have them on board.

Within an unprecedented global environment of funding cuts for humanitarian work, and the expectation of further restrictions, Wave continues to strive to provide our Community Members with the services they require.

As always, we remain committed to providing more than just services—we offer respect, connection, and hope.
