JULY 2025 MONTHLY REPORT

At Wave in July 2025, we served 1,787 hot meals, welcomed 17 new arrivals, charged 179 phones and power banks, ran 147 showers, and washed 87 laundry loads, distributed 336 hygiene items, and 173 clothing items. 

The total population we supported this month was 1,163.

 

July Updates

The past month at our community centre has been relatively quiet and smooth, especially when compared to the more challenging month of June, in which we saw a significant rise in visitors and requests. The numbers in July align more closely with our average monthly data. Compared to June, the total number of visitors dropped by 25%, while meals served and clothes and hygiene items distributed were both down by around 24%. Regardless of a lower attendance, we’ve nevertheless seen a noticeable increase in the number of showers (+63%) and laundry loads (+74%), and a similar trend in the requests for charging phones and devices (+32%). The high temperatures recorded in Thessaloniki, well above 35 ℃ for most of the month, likely contributed to this shift, as community members sought more access to sanitation facilities and hygiene products.

 

The higher demand for charging phones and devices is also in line with a general trend we’ve observed in the first half of the year. We are finding it more and more challenging to meet all the requests to charge devices. Our Logistics Coordinator Francisco is currently looking for a faster, more efficient and organised system for our charging station, even if that means investing a larger amount of money. As we are all very much aware, phones are so important to stay connected with friends and family and access online services and information!

 

Team Changes

To end on a more positive note, we are happy to announce that in July, we went through the process of hiring a new Volunteer Coordinator, and that we’re going to introduce them to you… in our next Monthly Report (cliff-hanger!). They will be our focal point for volunteers, as well as taking care of training and ensuring their well-being, and will help boost capacity for the coordination team. We are looking forward to them joining us starting from September!

We had quite a few applications, and it wasn’t an easy decision to make at all! We want to thank everyone who applied for the role. We only wish we had more positions to offer so we could welcome them into our team as well.
